p sure that most of the people who go DON'T EXPECT YOUR PARENTS TO PAY FOR YOU, LAZY are people who had everything paid for them.
lol yup and are finally living on their own for once
they now get to pull the bootstraps argument and that's exciting for them igss

a stockpile of toothpaste out in a shed
seems legit

a true couponer would have a climate controlled storage room
ngl despite their faults i'm so so glad my parents didn't take the 18 & ur out approach to parenting bc i would have been fucked :| it seems like it's more common in the states though for people to move out younger.
i wish i would have had a financially stable mother to help me w/ shit, or one that had health insurance so half of my paycheck didn't go to dental bills
if i have kids i'm letting them live with me until they're done with school
if i have kids i'm letting them live with me until they're done with school
idg middle class parents (probably ex attachment parents too) who refuse to help their kids out over anything ever
everyone i know who can't get even a little help from their parents can't go to school, even if it's completely covered by fin aid, b/c they have to work 2 or more minimum wage or worse jobs
is this rly what these ppl want for their kids
or does being middle class mean their kids can walk into wherever & get 12 dollars an hour?

idk. some people seem to think that people who expect parents to help out if they can want the parents to pay for ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING. apparently their own kids either magically don't need assistance or their expect their kids not to need assistance which is lol.
:(

See accompanying Physics Synopsis
In our busy lives, almost all of us have to walk with a cup of coffee. While often we spill the drink, this familiar phenomenon has never been explored systematically. Here we report on the results of an experimental study of the conditions under which coffee spills for various walking speeds and initial liquid levels in the cup. These observations are analyzed from the dynamical systems and fluid mechanics viewpoints as well as with the help of a model developed here. Particularities of the common cup sizes, the coffee properties, and the biomechanics of walking proved to be responsible for the spilling phenomenon. The studied problem represents an example of the interplay between the complex motion of a cup, due to the biomechanics of a walking individual, and the low-viscosity-liquid dynamics in it.

I do involve my kids in day to day money management, almost to the point of being ridiculous. The girls are still really bad with money.
They do not have jobs. My stepdaughter had a part time job last summer, while she was staying with her grandmother, and returned with not so much as a penny to her name. Her tax return, similarly, evaporated in days.
Getting jobs is part of the short term plan. The free-ride train is stopping soon, and if you'd like to stay here you'll have to contribute. Staying somewhere else will be a hell of a lot more expensive.

lol my mom refuuuused to let me get a job in hs because she wanted me to focus on my extracurriculars and then also refused to pay for driver's ed when i was sixteen but then when i turned 18, BAM i was out.
sucked ): i am finally beginning to recover

sorry biba :c that doesn't even make sense wtf
The girls are on our cell phone plan because they don't have jobs (this is on the agenda for things they need to correct) and my husband sleeps better knowing that they can call home at any time for any reason. There are things we do around here solely because they help me sleep better at night, so I'm not about to challenge him on this. Their phones are HIGHLY restricted. Every time they ask when the restrictions will be removed the answer is "when you pay for the phone yourself."
I'm a stockpiler, and I've been wracking my brain trying to figure out a way to secure the stockpile in such a way where the girls will not be able to access it, but the rest of us will. Such trains of thought lead to visions of a chain wrapped around my refrigerator, and my husband a very angry man. I'll probably do it anyway. It is AMAZING to me how much they both take the stockpile, and my mad frugal shopping skillz, for granted. Until I can reasonably control access to the stockpile, giving them money and telling them to fend for themselves at the store is going to be a challenge. I'm up for the challenge, it's just making my brain hurt thinking about emptying my cabinets, moving canned goods to the shed, and putting padlocks on my stockpile closets so that they can't get in to them.

can you stop. kinda of triggering for people who had abusive parents.
my dad thought i should have been kicked out at 18 to take care of myself and that i should get a job to pay for college w/o any financial aid (bc that's "charity" and "stealing from tax payers")
but he also believes one semester of college only costs $600 total

h8 partying
i don't understand how people can do it like every night. i mean sometimes it's fun but i just feel sooooo shitty with no sleep and hungover the next day it's not worth it.

omg i know
one night of clubbing/heavy drinking is enough to last me a month.

my parents haven't kicked me out bc i do all the cooking and most of the cleaning in the house
lol my dad will pay for everything as long as i'm in school full time. i don't think it makes me spoiled or teaches me bad money management. i really, really appreciate it and because of him i'm able to do unpaid internships and other things i'd never otherwise have the opportunity to do. i have 2 volunteer jobs i love and am able to focus mostly on school, so i have a 4.0. idk i think it's kind of selfish to not pay for your kid's college if you can afford it, i don't believe you're doing them any favors by letting them struggle by on their own really.
awesome dad
wish all dads could afford to do this

I understood the effort my mother put into shopping when I was 10, and my kids absolutely understand the effort I put in to get what I get. They just don't care.
Taking and using, I don't mind, that's why it's there. Taking and wasting, "it's OK, she'll just buy more," is NOT OK.
Locking down the stockpile is my husband's idea. My husband is an incredibly wasteful person, and even he is appauled at how wasteful the girls are. He very rarely puts his foot down, and certainly never before concerning the stockpile because that's my domain, so this is going to happen.
Who throws away half a bottle of body wash because there's a new scent in the closet you want to try? "It's OK, she'll just buy more."

in retrospect i really took my mom for granted. she paid for all my college and i was just like oh yea that's cool thx mom. i did get some loans but i was too lazy too apply for scholarships. i finally got a student job junior year to offset the cost. but when i first met people whose parents refused to pay for college it blew my mind, i never imagined that actually happened before then.
i work at a store that sells, among other things, lots of toys
every week this family comes in with a ~5 year old boy and buy about 5 star wars toys
that is what spoiled is okay
