I do involve my kids in day to day money management, almost to the point of being ridiculous. The girls are still really bad with money.

They do not have jobs. My stepdaughter had a part time job last summer, while she was staying with her grandmother, and returned with not so much as a penny to her name. Her tax return, similarly, evaporated in days.

Getting jobs is part of the short term plan. The free-ride train is stopping soon, and if you'd like to stay here you'll have to contribute. Staying somewhere else will be a hell of a lot more expensive.

is she applying this to her son, does he have to get a job too

b/c as much as she's fixating on how horribly wasteful her daughters are, his contentment w/ everything is what's really gonna bite her in the ass, b/c he's just gonna chill there not giving a fuck at how much he has w/o enough desire for more to actually work at getting it

i get the feeling that her son is younger than her daughter/stepdaughter are.

her mention of one of the girls (or both? idk) being a stepdaughter just made me go oh :/
