Being an asexual with a libido is confusing and frustrating. Your body expects you to be sexually active but there is no one you want to have sex with. You may try, maybe for many years, searching for what you’re missing. Maybe this partner, maybe that gender, maybe this position, maybe that sex play, maybe there is something you just haven’t tried that will make your body say “Yes, this is what I was searching for”. You constantly doubt yourself, and it doesn’t help when people inside and outside of the community question you. If you’re asexual, why can you be aroused? How can you get turned on by seeing or reading about sex between people you aren’t attracted to? You can’t answer, because you don’t know. You feel guilty for seeking arousal because it somehow betrays your identity. Your friend points out a hot person and you quickly look up, watching closely, straining to figure out if anything changes within you when you look at that person over anyone else. You can see that they look nice. But that is it. No heat down below. No sudden desire to have them in your bed. You can’t even imagine what that kind of feeling would be like. And it is endlessly frustrating.
