Another historical perspective, in the South these two words, lady and woman, had a definite racist function. I learned in the 1930's, I was explicitly instructed, that is, to call a white female person "lady" and to call a female person of color "woman." I was, therefore, aware of the 'misuse' but not of just how subversive my mother was actually being in that time and place when she consistently referred to "Mrs. Jones, the ironing lady." Mrs. Jones sat at the table and had lunch with my mother, who had several small children and a couple of miscarriages and deeply appreciated the help with her work load on the Tuesdays Mrs. Jones came to iron.
Later on, of course, peer pressure prevailed for a while and I became very conscious of "girls" vs "young ladies" and all the other classist and racist signals that help to keep our society so sick. Later still, as a thinking adult and a budding feminist and apprentice decent human being, I have tried to scour my vocabulary and rid myself of the terms that signal disrespect for any person or group of people. It does require regular review and I value this space for that, among so many other reasons.

Thor and Loki are a bonded pair but unaware of it. But when Thor is exiled and begins to fall for Jane, it starts tearing at the bond, slowly killing Loki.
“The simplistic formula that claims “you’re either pro-marriage or against equality” makes us forget that all forms of marriage perpetuate gender, racial and economic inequality. It mistakenly assumes that support for marriage is the only good measure of support for LGBT communities. This political moment calls for anti-homophobic politics that centralize anti-racism and anti-poverty. Marriage is a coercive state structure that perpetuates racism and sexism through forced gender and family norms. Right wing pro-marriage rhetoric has targeted families of color and poor families, supported a violent welfare and child protection system, vilified single parents and women, and marginalized queer families of all kinds. Expanding marriage to include a narrow band of same-sex couples only strengthens that system of marginalization and supports the idea that the state should pick which types of families to reward and recognize and which to punish”
Loki is smitten the first time he meets Thora Odinsdottir, but has enough experience to see that there's something cracked and fragile about her. This makes him hold back from showing his affections until Thora's life explodes, making it necessary for their circle of friends to step in and for Loki to finally admit and act on how deep his feelings for Thora really go.
