I was very disappointed with the joke in Pearl's dream given that it relies on the transmisogynistic trope of laughing at a man/dmab person in a dress.
i looked back in the archive of one of the baddel bloggers' tumblrs and just a year ago she was entirely sensible and reasonable, had posts about not making fun of trans men for their transness or their bodies (which she does now), no posts about how dfab people are the ultimate evil, posts on how "destroying gender" isn't a reasonable way to get trans people legitimized
Anonymous asked: I made a post about how it's inappropriate and creepy for people 30+ years old to be into fandoms in here that are actively teen fandoms and I got a lot of angry people responding to it - was I in the wrong?
you’re not wrong at all adults have no entitlement in spaces that are specifically for teenagers & college aged kids to begin with and if they’re acting like a Fellow Kid instead of an adult and not someone who’s significantly older who needs to check themselves to make sure they’re not overstepping any boundaries… those people really shouldn’t involve themselves on fandom a tbh if they can’t recognize that inherent power imbalance tbh people attacking you for saying that were probably indirectly defending ohn-jay een-grey, if u catch my drift
Perhaps it was simply coincidence that a reporter approached Rachel’s parents now, and perhaps if he hadn’t they still wouldn’t have said anything. But I have to say, the timing is concerning. Did Rachel’s parents out her as white simply because they care about the truth? Or were they also motivated by a desire to discredit her so that they can, by association, discredit the victim she is supporting, and thereby protect their son from the sexual abuse charges that have been levied against him? Did Rachel act inexcusably in lying and deceiving people? Oh, hell yes. But elevating her parents heroes or truth-tellers while ignoring this troubling context is worrisome.
And perhaps that’s what’s bothering me about this story. Rachel’s parents have been paraded and lauded across the media, their words taken at face value, despite the fact that they have been (successfully) accused of abuse and despite the fact that they are defending their adult son against accusations of child sexual abuse. And as someone familiar with the dynamics of abuse, this makes me really uncomfortable.
i messaged this to her: ""you’re not wrong at all adults have no entitlement in spaces that are specifically for teenagers & college aged kids" college aged kids COLLEGE AGED KIDS /COLLEGE AGED KIDS/ stop infantilizing yourself and other young adults please god"
i think what i love about "no adults allowed in fandom" from tumblr is it's rly obvious that none of them seem to realize that they're going to be adults someday
