In conclusion Asexuals are an oppressed group and any complaint about them working for visibility is from a point of privilege and therefore worse and weightier than any complaint they have about sexualization of platonic characters.

Feeling suddenly overwraught in their own territory, the already oppressed ace spectrum folks get defensive, especially when the romantic/sexual shippers start getting to the point where they talk about their ship as though it was canon and “obvious” and the characters aren’t together in canon because they’re in “denial” or any other number of reasons. These sorts of comments can feel really erasing to ace people, dismissing their (finally) supported headcanon that the character(s) in question are asexual like them.
