is it just me or is all the hype about people writing honest portrayals of women not really actually doing anything for women
not just in issues of erasure of women who aren't white, straight, able-bodied, etc but even down to their personalities. like you see stuff about girls, bridesmaids, young adult, etc being written by women about women and it's heralded as some sort of revolutionary shift in media but why are all the main characters invariably huge assholes?? that's not honest to me. most of the women i know who don't have their shit together have more problems with making good decisions for themselves than they do with not being terrible to the people around them. you know? i just hate that even as we praise this stuff for being ~real~ at its core its still the same old 'women who are unhappy are catty to others' shit with some more cussing thrown in and then its lauded as honest and unflinching
