fancy weddings are so weird

i've never gone to one where anybody gets gifts at the day of the wedding

and i've never been to a wedding with dancing/toasting/all of that

or a wedding where dinner was served, only like punch and cake and maybe a cheese platter or something

my bf and i went to a wedding last summer and we brought the gift bc we didn't know you were supposed to send it ahead of time, whoops

what? that's not standard protocol either

there's usually a gift table and then like a box with a slot in it for checks

lol i've never seen either of those things

lolwat? i'm rly confused by this, that's pretty much standard wedding stuff to me, not fancy at all.

where r u from?

i'm from north carolina (appalachia tho tbf) and all the weddings i've ever been to were like a 20 min ceremony followed by a 20-30 min reception where everyone just milled around talking and then left whenever they wanted to

but yeah it sounds like that's not rly a standard thing.

i'm from the uk (and my family's christian, i'll add). here the wedding is probably more than an hour long, then everyone goes back and the reception is probably at least three or four hours, because people usually have dinner together, then toasts and speeches, then party til bedtime. and there are gifts, but usually given at the wedding.

it seems to be a regional thing, i don't think i've ever been to a wedding where you didn't bring the gift that day. like you COULD send it ahead of time, but it was always prepared for for guests to bring them to the reception.

my wedding had dinner and toasting (though the toasting was not really something i encouraged) but no dancing.
