lol ppl taught to cook by their parents sure are sanctimonious about how easy it is to teach yourself to cook
srly tho. poor ppl arent dumb. don't you fucking think we want to eat better? but it's expensive as fuck, and it's time consuming. when you have a job that physically drains you how are you supposed to cook? throw on that children? and lets be real, anon is ignoring a sexist component to this. how much energy do you think a woman has after working an 8 hr shift, then coming home to take care of kids and laundry and chores? making something cheap and easy takes less time and energy then making something with fresh produce. not to mention fresh produce means going out and shopping multiple times a week
how is that possible when you have two or three bills over due or your car broke down or god help you you got sick? and lbr ppl are lucky to have some sort of coverage. being poor means buying food with your pay check and praying that it lasts you until your next one. you cant buy fresh produce like that.

yep. even the farmer's markets that accept ebt are still almost entirely patronized by middle/upper class ppl

my parents were terrible cooks and they taught me how to cook terribly, and i plan to teach my eventual kids how to also cook terribly.

where i'm from (indonesia) poor people cook p much 100% every meal, whereas middle-class and up don't know how to cook and have to have servants or restaurant food
i can't even imagine not being able to cook tho omg. what happens if there's a monsoon or hurricane or w/e and all the fast food places are closed????? would you just eat sandwiches and cereal???

it sounds kinda strange but one of the teachers had some sort of vendetta against my class in elementary and middle school (she changed schools when we did oh god). even if we were the first in the lunch line thus given plenty of time to eat, she would force us to sit down and be the last in line. by the time we sat down with our lunches pretty much over half of lunch time was done.
been scarfing down meals and getting heartburn ever since :c

i don't have to "imagine" i'm unemployed, i actually was for more than a month and now i make $9/hr just like the temp job choice does, but i work part time. it's rough, but i get along ok, mostly bc that many bad things almost never befalls a person in one month and the bad things that do befall me, i don't make stupid choices. one of the choices in that game is to have "just one" cigarette- who starts smoking when they have only about $350 in the bank?

then i went to college and taught myself to cook w/ google and pots/pans from goodwill (srsly, you can get p decent stuff at goodwill, the whole ~set i have now cost less than $10 total)
