i just caught my gf rubbing our rescue dog's face in his pee : he was abused in his previous home too. i heard him and he ran to me and his face was covered in pee and he looked so traumatized. it took me like five minutes to coax him out from hiding under the table. i flipped the fuck out of my girlfriend and told her to go take a drive while i calm down.

i washed him up and i'm holding him rn and he seems to be okay now but i am so fucking angry. this isn't the first time my gf has done something like this to him. i don't know what to do. i love this dog more than anything, but i also love my gf. we live together and never argue.

should i ask her to go to therapy for anger issues? i didn't see anything but she could have hit the dog too. does anyone have any resources about rubbing dogs in their own urine being abusive/traumatizing for them so i can educate my gf about this?

i think so. they don't look irritated or anything, and it was mostly the side of his face.

you might want to try contacting somebody who works professionally with abused dogs to ask about that

with abused animals you have to be gentle and do things differently, she needs to understand that

tell her dogs aren't that smart that they'll understand she's mad about them peeing hours after it happened
