i think the food in the uk is the way it is because it's colder and wetter on average than the mediterranean. so it was harder to grow things, and people required heavier meals to warm them up, which usually meant potatoes.

yet they make horrible things w/potatoes and make the weirdest as fuck food

boil em, mash em, stick em in a stew

potatos are stereotypically irish though

they are, but the rest of the uk has potato-based dishes as well. they really suit the climate.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-16 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
the rest of the uk?

(Anonymous) 2012-05-16 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)

you do know ppl in europe didn't eat potatos until they were introduced from south and central america during the... 17th or 18th century, i forget which

(Anonymous) 2012-05-16 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
late 17th-early 18th

(Anonymous) 2012-05-16 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
but the climate was still the same after that

(Anonymous) 2012-05-16 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah but they only started eating potatos when they would have starved otherwise.

they thought they were the food of the devil at first bc oh no they're not mentioned in the bible!!!!

longer winters with no fresh food, yes

altho ofc it would have been turnips and shit before potatoes were introduced
