historical characters in movies give me second-hand experience unless they're very old, so i just can't figure out why i thought watching midnight in paris was a good idea

i feel like it's not so much historical figures - it's historical figures as a peripheral character or plot device. like it's fine if the whole movie is about the figure, but when it's about some other person/people and the historical figure is just there, it's weird and disconcerting
