and no, most of fandom doesn't really care about being sj to be taken seriously in fandom. there is a backlash now against some of the bigger sj hypocrits. most people don't want to be assholes to other people, and that that is usually trying to be aware and careful on most social issues
i think the hypocrites should be called out, but obviously outright bigotry shouldn't get a pass. i'm against the whole "if you like x you support this -ism" since many hypocrites use it to bash other ships or whine that theirs aren't popular. but, it does suck when reasonable criticism about a show and not the fans gets brushed off as overreaction.
i don't disagree with you, but most of fandom isn't about deep metatextual analysis it is about who i find hot and how can i sex them up in my fanfic. sure, write all the essays you want about the sexism of joss whedon in the avengers, but most of avengers fandom who probably won't even bother to read the essay is going to go yep, ur right, and then keep writing m/m slash.
