ikr aang was obvs an exception, don't most avatars not even get introduced to the public until they're like 16 or something? and they have all that time to be trained by the best bending masters in the world etc. but aang just up and masters all the elements in less than a year with only the help of a few other kids while on the run from the fire nation and coping with the hundred years that had passed while he was in his ice-coma. i mean ilhim but lbr he is a very typical ~chosen one mary sue type where as they're obvs taking a more realistic, grounded approach to korra, plus of course they would be extra careful about sheltering and coddling the first avatar after the whole hundred year war debacle
