nona who gave me advice for my depressed friend

I've tried suggesting that she should go see someone, but she said she doesn't want to and the last time she went to see someone, her family nearly split up, but she won't tell me anything else.

is she a college/university student? if so, she should be able to see a counselor or psychologist on-campus without anyone finding out

she has, and i told her no one should have found out but all she said was "they can if it involves abuse" and won't tell me anything else about that.

oh wow, i'm so sorry nona. the only thing i can suggest is free or sliding scale clinics that offer peer support - something that she could go to on her own without having her family find out, if she changes her mind. there are also group sessions. maybe she would be more comfortable calling a hotline or being referred through the internet?

okay, i just saw the response posted to the comment above mine.

i would give her the number for a hotline, just in case. several years ago i was in a very similar situation to yours (while also dealing with depression and my own poor mental health): my friend's family prevented her from getting the help she needed. she ended up calling a hotline, and she also went to a youth center. since i don't know where you are located or what is happening with your friend, i can only recommending starting with some hotlines for depression (and on from there).

i hope things get better <3
