i hated it when i saw that trailer where the dad was the one the girl was all on good terms with and who wanted her to ~be herself~ while her mom was all mean and gender-normative

so fucking sick of the portrayal of men as being not as bad as women when it comes to sexism

so fucking sick of it

legit the only criticism that i completely agree with wrt to brave so far

(Anonymous) 2012-04-25 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
but i thought the movie was gonna be about saving her mom and maybe realizing how important her mom is?

(Anonymous) 2012-04-25 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
idk, i just saw that trailer and went :/ bc srsly this shit got old when pride and prejudice did it fuck

(Anonymous) 2012-04-25 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
except the movie's gonna be about her working out her relationship w/her mom sooooo

(Anonymous) 2012-04-25 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
yeah didn't brenda chapman write it for her daughter or something

(Anonymous) 2012-04-25 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
idg what that has to do with the criticism about the mom being more gender-normative than the dad tho

(Anonymous) 2012-04-25 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
how is the mom more gender-normative from the dad tho aside from the fact that she doesn't get along with her tomboyish daughter which is something that will change over the course of the movie bc character development

(Anonymous) 2012-04-25 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
idk in the commercials it looks like her mom is the only one getting on her case abt being a proper lady tho

(Anonymous) 2012-04-25 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
ofc she's the only one in the trailers bc they're highlighting a major conflict, i'm sure other ppl in the film are like that too even if her dad isn't

early corsets were still restrictive tho... that's why they kept posture so well
