do you think the internet is actually helpful in making people become more aware of sj issues? and that it will enable the next generation to become more progressive?

(Anonymous) 2012-04-24 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
no

(Anonymous) 2012-04-24 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
all the older ppl i know seem to think it will but i can't agree

see: kony 2012

tbf i saw a lot of backlash towards the kony thing on tumblr and a lot of people educating others on the campaign so i think thats a good thing

you get a different problem - sjws - but i think overall it's helpful. i'd rather have a lot of well-informed individuals and a bunch of idiot sjws than total general ignorance overall. i wouldn't have a lot of the opinions i have now if i hadn't been exposed to it.

sjws won't ever have the social power that ignorant bigots have so i can't get too fussed about them online tbh.

exactly

i think it's more that the internet lets people connect on a really personalized level, so seek out people that have similar views to them, and this can be either negative or positive?

(Anonymous) 2012-04-24 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
no bc the way the sj is presented online is not the same as irl, even in the non-shitty parts of the internet

for every fifteen year old on tumblr parroting sj talking point there are five fifteen year olds on facebook being racist/sexist/w/e dickbags

yes, obviously it's not the one and only solution but it's creating a lot of opportunities that otherwise wouldn't be there
