the theory is that the avatar spirit got split and kind of broken, in that amon got the spiritual side and access to the avatar's legacy and past lives, and the bending passed on to korra

but if amon had the avatar's spiritual powers, then why would he be anti-bender?

idk maybe bc he doesn't feel "whole", due to missing the bending and that's put enough of a strain on him to want to get rid of bending entirely
