they are slightly tart and taste a bit of grapes and a bit flowery
my grandparents had a gooseberry bush and i used to eat them raw as a kid (which you can ttly do without getting a stomachache or w/e) but they make lovely pies
om ty. i was discouraged by the first gooseberry hater.
i think they grow more in cooler climates? my grandparents had a bush of them and they lived in northern pennsylvania. plus i see them in scandinavian recipes a lot.
when i was small they were a summer staple, but these days no one seems to be growing them for commercial purposes. when they are available they cost a packet so i hardly ever eat them anymore. it's a shame. so many varieties of soft summer fruit is disappearing from the shelves.
the bushes do grow low to the ground so it is hard on the knees, but strawberries are even lower so that should not be the problem. canned berries are better than no berries, so if you can get them delivered why not.
