it was a specific trend. i forgot where it started but someone decided it was funny to make teenagers use a high end literary vocabulary. i recall film makers like the one who made clueless explaining it at the time.

also all those movies were based off of classical literature like pymallion, taming of the shrew, jane austen etc. hollywood was really in to infusing academia with adolescence
