This is in Mockingjay where Katniss kills an unarmed woman


"I'm rising to my feet when a woman throws open the door. She wears a bright turquoise silk robe embroidered with exotic birds. Her magenta hair's fluffed up like a cloud and decorated with gilded butterflies. Grease from the half-eaten sausage she's holding smears her lipstick. The expression on her face says she recognizes me. She opens her mouth to call for help.
Without hesitation, I shoot her through the heart."

Later:

"...Do a tragic tribute to the woman lying where we left her, with my arrow still in her heart. Someone has redone her makeup for the cameras."

The only time I can remember attention being given to a male Capitol member's makeup was Cinna and that was lauding how restrained and tasteful it was.

i always found the description of the capitol people interesting just because of how absurd it would seem to someone who had lived in absolute poverty their entire lives. like the scene in the 2nd book where they take pills to make themselves vomit so they can eat more.

but i really did never notice that it tended towards the females. that's interesting also. i didn't see it so much as women shaming as judging people with more wealth than they need. but i definately will read it again with that in mind.

but then i think if she were also calling attention to the groce makeup being worn by capitol dudes that wouldn't make me much happier
