serious curiosity bc i always wonder what i would do in this situation

if u had a pet that was intersex what pronouns would u use? how would u decide?

(Anonymous) 2012-04-08 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
call it whatever you want since it doesn't care about gender politics

(Anonymous) 2012-04-08 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
that's the question biba

how do u choose

(Anonymous) 2012-04-08 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
flip a coin, goddamn, because it does not matter in the slightest

sort of annoying that you are trying to draw some comparison between intersex animals and humans. animals don't give a shit hth

(Anonymous) 2012-04-08 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
lol what omg

i am not drawing a comparison I'm just wondering what people who do

seriously who thinks the dog cares, but u have to refer to the dog at some point and im wondering how u would choose

(Anonymous) 2012-04-08 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
girl

because girls are better

(Anonymous) 2012-04-08 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
+1

tho i have a bird whose sex we don't know and i call him him, b/c he was already named "roy" and also he's a fucking jackass

(Anonymous) 2012-04-08 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
tbh i'd pick female too bc misandry

(Anonymous) 2012-04-08 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
she/her

not like my pet would gaf

(Anonymous) 2012-04-08 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
it.

because its a fucking dog

(Anonymous) 2012-04-08 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
if somebody was calling their dog it i would probably think they were a jackass

(Anonymous) 2012-04-08 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
lol nona

it's an "it"

deal with it

(Anonymous) 2012-04-08 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
its a dog hth

(Anonymous) 2012-04-08 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
name it something neutral and only refer to it as "they" or "it"?

idk i'd probably just pick a gender at random because it's a fucking dog and it cares about table scraps and sleeping on the couch and find the perfect spot to pee, not what pronouns i'm using when i speak to it in a language it will never understand.

(Anonymous) 2012-04-08 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
i know someone who uses alternating pronouns for a pet (bird? lizard? sth like that) that he doesn't know the gender of

i would probably use female pronouns bc i do that when idk the pet's gender. besides, it's an animal, it doesn't give a fuck

(Anonymous) 2012-04-08 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
lol i love how everybody has to clarify that the dog doesn't care

we all know that

(Anonymous) 2012-04-08 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
probably because a huge part of the politics of human gender is respecting the right of the individual to define themselves and to use the pronouns preferred by the person in question. but since animals don't have any such concept or any such concern, it's silly to even debate.

(Anonymous) 2012-04-08 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
lol but it wasn't a debate

it was wondering what ppl would do and for some reason everybody is acting like it was some serious matter

(Anonymous) 2012-04-08 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
hey guess what we also know

gender politics and preferred pronouns is a loaded topic for a good reason

so this "lulz but what about my dawg" semi-trolling is sort of tacky

(Anonymous) 2012-04-08 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
what

ppl were talking about gender pronouns and dogs

so i asked a question that was entirely on topic

how is that trolling

(Anonymous) 2012-04-08 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
get a new thing

(Anonymous) 2012-04-08 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
what

(Anonymous) 2012-04-08 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
nona this might blow your mind but editorial standard is to use "it" when it comes to animals.

(Anonymous) 2012-04-08 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
that's not usual for animals you know and are fond of though

(Anonymous) 2012-04-08 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
flip a coin, or 'it'
