tbh the attempted rape scene in buffy with spike really pissed me off bc i felt like it was an attempt to punish female fans for their fantasies bc buffy/spike was pretty huge ("you're stupid if you think it is romantic/ship it, here, let's have a scene of him nearly raping her")

i don't think male viewers get judged nearly as much for their wish fulfillment fanatsies even if they are inane

also i hate that every female hero gets at least one near rape scene like that

good point nona. i couldn't figure out wtf the reason for that scene was - it could have been to point out how fucked up their relationship was, but there are so many other ways they could have done that

honestly, and i know some of this is rape culture, but all i got out of it was spike is really damaged

hi fornikate

yeah if you look at a rape scene and all you can think is "wow that rapist sure is messed up" then there is something wrong with you

ayrt

it could have been to point out how fucked up their relationship was

it just feels so patronising somehow and creepy to use a near rape to achieve that

buffy's relationship with riley was really unhealthy too imo bc he was an insecure jerk who couldn't stand that his gf was stronger than him but that was portrayed as a failure of buffy's

idk where i'm going with this
