it wasnt everywhere outside a few franchises that were marketed to children while changing every reference to japan lol

a lot of non-children shows were impossible to find unless you wanted to buy bootlegged VHS tapes with bad dubbing and/or subs

it got better when dvds were a thing at least

now there arent any anime aimed at kids tho, they dont show kids anime in the us
