i'm babysitting my nephew. he's a sweetheart, but this child is definitely autistic, i'm talking textbook.
i don't know how to tell his mom because i feel like she'll blow up at me, she really doesn't like the mental health establishment and i don't blame her based on her history, but i feel like it's important for him to get these resources early. what would you do, nonas?
i understand. i mentioned something earlier to her and she doesn't want him to get a diagnosis or see anyone until he's an adult.
i was trying to figure out the way to tell her the second way, but yeah it wasn't working lol. fwiw, i'm seeking dx and my bf is autistic, and he sees it.
nona anything u can do to get this kid to a specialist is super important. he's reaching the age where early intervention stops working. frame it as help for sensory problems (or w/e he has issues with) if u have to but do everything u can to get this kid to a specialist
if her personal experiences have set up to be resistant towards the industry and she does not want to acknowledge that early intervention and support gives him a better start at life, there is only so much you can do.
i read above he is 8, so i would imagine teachers may have observed these behaviours too. i suppose you could go around her back and talk to the school and let them instigate discussing this more with her so he receives the support he needs.

unless you have the ability to give a diagnose stay away from suggesting the son is on autistic spectrum because it might put her on the defensive.
