tbh that might have been part of why i h8ed it but i don't remember it v clearly

i think it was that jane eyre had potential but she was in that book

i remember we used to debate abt whether rochester or heathcliff was worse

burn them both at the stake!
imo mr rochester is worse, heathcliffe doesn't hide what he is, he's like an asshole all the time

yeah, but as a counterpoint rochester at least waits until his victims are adults before he ruins their lives

there's a lot of angles to this shittiness

it's borderline, jane has never known any men before she goes to work for rochester, she's still a teenager so she's a bundle of raging hormones so its not surprising she develops a crush on the first man who treats her with some kindness. he knows this and he still takes advantage of the situation.

i did used to get in trouble a lot for hating the men in the books we were reading lql

except w/ one teacher who encouraged me to insult literally every character in the books i was reading. obviously w/ a well written paper but she srsly thought my hate for these characters was the best thing ever. i'm just sad i only had her for one year

i had a teacher who was nuts about heathclif, he was her romantic ideal
