tbh it's both the fact americans love to be overdramatic on top of having no concept of what it's like outside their own bubble. they're just too self-absorbed to realize what they're saying. (that and srsly hyperbole over every goddamn thing bc it makes them feel more enlightened to take it 10 steps further than need be) they're also so distanced from what they do in other countries that they don't have to think about it or have a frame of reference.

and it's also bc a lot of the time america paints other countries as so dumb and barbaric while america is the smartest and greatest. mix that w/ lacking the ability to put things in perspective and part of the overreaction is reacting to be told you're the best around and nothing's ever gonna get you down
