Can we just not go here? Asexuality may never have been criminalized, but it's certainly been pathologized. Sexual desire is normal and healthy, and thus its absence is all too often treated as abnormal and unhealthy. Ultimately, the LGBT movement is a struggle against prejudice and persecution. It's about fostering acceptance and learning to value diversity. LGBT has grown to become LBGTQIA, as questioning people, intersexuals, and asexuals have all hitched themselves to the proverbial wagon. (I generally avoid this longer acronym, as I find it cumbersome). It's not about taking away from or overshadowing queer experiences and struggles. It's about marginalized and minority groups banding together, because we can accomplish more collectively than we can separately. There's room for all of us in this tent.

And for what it's worth, as one of the queer people in this thread arguing against the use of the word "queer" for het aces, I do believe that asexuals and aromantics do face prejudice and in some areas even discrimination. We may not be all part of the same smaller queer community, but we are part of a larger community between that and "all people, ever", and I'm happy to share that - I think both groups can be good allies to each other.

For personal reasons, I'm glad "Parenthood" is off the air. Having been diagnosed with the same disorder, I wouldn't feel comfortable seeing a character on TV whose disorder is presented first and foremost about them as well as the fact he's constantly shown struggling and has parents who don't really treat him like a normal person because of it. (Which makes me wonder why there aren't more shows like "The Bridge" where someone with AS is treated the opposite way, as it's not mentioned outright and that they're treated like regular people.)
Really, didn't that kid have Dyslexia in the movie? Even if I feel my own diagnosis was an overdiagnosis that seems much too common (And I question the people who are proud of it and think it's an asset...it's NOT), I'd rather watch film and TV to FORGET my problems, not see them played out constantly. Which is why I want to be an actress. I want to make all those people in similar situations feel they can get through their problems, that they're not perceived as one dimensional. I wouldn't feel right being on a show that doesn't think people with mental disorders and disabilities are average people.
