Well, I am from a European country with very few non-European people, and last year I visited New York and USA for the first time with a friend. We were a bit nervous about saying something wrong and hurtful to minorities there. What surprised us were how nice and friendly everyone was , and that was also people who wasnt expecting to be tipped in restaurants. I was expecting more " angry black people" based on what I had read on the internet , and that wasnt our experiences at all. We were trying to be as polite and friendly as possible and everyone was friendly back and very talkative ( in our culture it isnt usual to talk to strangers if you are sober ).The only exception was a young man on Times Square who yelled to two Italian girls holding hands that homosexuality was a sin and they were going to hell.Everyone else just ignored him , but I was a little nervous.
