u know ppl actively resisted being in the hitler youth right

if i wanted one person to have the moral character to refuse that, even at risk of death, it would be the pope

yes, and i really hope i'd have been one of them, but i doubt it

especially if i thought my family's lives depended on me joining, after i resisted joining for so long

you expect me to think this would matter to someone who's supposed to be the head of the catholic religion? jesus expects you to die rather than betray your morals, why should it stop in nazi germany?

because he was a teenager, and u clearly have v little understanding of the catholic religion or what the pope is supposed to be

i mean, the ur-pope is st peter, and he denied ever knowing jesus because he thought he might end up tried with him. all the apostles ran away, rather than be caught with him

it's kind of a big part of the narrative: what do u do after that?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-01 08:16 am (UTC)(link)
really? because i don't think i'd want someone to be in charge of a religion who didn't have any experience of failing horribly and dealing with that. they'd be terribly self-righteous, and wouldn't know how to cope with failure

they'd be captain kirk

bc joining hitler youth is just "failing" at something

(Anonymous) 2013-09-01 08:23 am (UTC)(link)
yes, it is

it's failing to not join, because u don't want ur family to die

(Anonymous) 2013-09-01 08:18 am (UTC)(link)
did this make sense in your head
