dunno if this is totally about married life, but this is the community I'm in and I like you guys and know a lot of you have step kids.

it was suggested to me lately that my husband and I set up a will, since we've got a toddler and if heaven forbid something happen to us, we want the world to be sure about who's supposed to take care of her.

so our first formula was simple:

- if we both die, everything we have goes to our two-year-old daughter, with my sister in charge of everything (so, it all goes to my sister)
- if our whole family dies, everything gets split 50/50 between our four parents

THEN it hit me that we'd left my husband's first daughter out of the formula! she's 14 and lives really far away, he visits when he can and sends child support checks, I haven't been allowed to have a relationship with her (it's complicated). now I'm torn about what's normal and fair in this situation... if my husband and I and our daughter all die I'm not as worried because his parents will take care of his 14-year-old with what they're left, we trust them to do that. But if just he and I die, is it fair that everything goes to our 2 year old? She technically has a whole childhood ahead of her, really needs more providing for I think.

scary that the dad didn't even notice tbh
