it also matters to queer mamis that when our straight partner dies, our kids don’t immediately get taken because we’re queer.

oh man, yes. in a lot of places same-sex couples can't legally adopt, so even if you and your partner have raised her bio kid for a decade and more, if your partner dies, you're not considered her parent and she can be put in foster care or sent off to live with her other mom's family

it sounded like a bi man in a relationship with a woman having bio-kids would have his kids taken away for being bi
