as in, the detective doesn't actively kill people, maybe they did before maybe not, don't care. but someone who goes thru legal channels to catch criminals, but is really good at profiling killers because secretly their personality is killerish, and they either have killed in the past or are frequently tempted to?
I've seen this with robbers before, burglars catching burglars, but is there any fiction that is like that but with murder and without the detective murdering killers?

i think it might be 'cause i'm trying too hard to remember but I met a guy who flew in to see me, and we were with eachother for almost a week, and i feel like I can't remember his face and looking at pictures doesn't create his face in my memories even though it's him. i mean, we knew eachother for like 2 months prior, and this is someone that i did various sexual things with, lost my virginity to and someone where we both admitted there was a part that loved eachother 'cause neither of us could do sexual stuff with just a random person.
i told him in our in between time when he was visiting other people and then came back that i was having trouble remembering his face. we were gonna take a photo together but we both forgot, so now he's on the otherside of the country. so i'm gonna ask if he can take a picture of himself with how his facial hair looked (shaved) when he was here but

hotel a is in a more residential neighborhood, rooms and furniture are realllyyyy plain and simple, a little ways away from the downtown area but buses run on the street to get you to another line or to the subway
hotel b is more centrally located, subway station is about a block away, each room is uniquely decorated in victorian vibes, offers free continental breakfasts on weekends, some people mention various smells tho and the neighborhood is seedier.
both hotels have shared bathrooms and both are about the same price.
