because i guess that i don't make a conscious effort to seek out books by WOC, which is something i can definitely work on. do you have suggestions for me?

most "well-known" books are by white authors so i get why you have a bigger pool. what type of genre do you like?

i real mostly contemporary, age range YA because that's what i write and have to analyze more often

i read contemporary books in general, actually. prefer books about women in real life, relationships, etc.

most libraries/bookstores have an "african american"/"asian"/"latino"/"ethnic"/w/e section

my libraries don't, that's something i've looked for, specifically books by latinas.

nayrt and it's not ya but i rly enjoyed nervous conditions by tsitsi dangarembga. it's set in 1960's rhodesia (zimbabwe) just before the revolution, and it's a coming-of-age tale about a girl trying to get her education, navigate her relationships w/ her family around racism and sexism and colonialism, etc. there are a bunch of different women in her family, and following their relationships & stories is really interesting

tw racism, misogyny, dv, eating disorders (and I think that's it?)

i've never met anyone else who's read it, but the first line is semi famous:

"I was not sorry when my brother died."
