i can understand why a lot of activists are anti-olympics, but i can't really agree with treating absolutely everything to do with it as some kind of neo-fascist propaganda. god forbid people forget their horrible lives for a moment to look forward to a worldwide sporting event.

i understand being upset and protesting the athlete factories, for lack of a better term. and for how uneven the playing field ends up being, so heavily weighted toward the US and russia and european nations. the lack of coverage for events that the first world countries aren't the favorites in.

i still believe in the spirit of why they exist, tho. and i wish something could be done to fix it.

oh yeah, there are definitely specific issues to be contested. but i don't want to begrudge people for getting into the general spirit of it when there are so few things to be happy about in the world.
