omg they've completely automated the sf public library
well i mean no, but for my purposes they have

i can requisition trashy books online and have them sent from any branch to my local one without the judging eyes of the librarian
then i go and get my books on the requests shelf without any assistance
then i self-check out

chicago public library has this too

if i'm rly feeling lazy i can even put books on hold from my own branch, get them off the holds shelf, and use the self-checkout for them

lol it's probably been like this for years but i never thought to use the online stuff

yyyy we've had a rly handy hold system for a while but the self-checkout is new

our libraries are super understaffed tho so sometimes it takes a rly long time for holds to get downtown from suburban branches :/ and it's usually stuff i rly need for research

still waiting for a book i put on hold for a project due last week--only reason i haven't cancelled is bc i'd feel bad wasting whatever work they've already put into getting it to me :/
