i got out of a relationship with an abusive and controlling fuckstain last may and took a job teaching in Italy all summer. while there, i fell in love with one of my coworkers and we bonded like crazy and we would swap writing and he would cook for me and screen my favorite movies for me because he lived there. i told him towards the end how i felt and he told me basically that he's asexual (doesn't "value romantic relationships like other people do") but it didn't change a thing and we'd be friends.


back home i've been miserable because i'm stuck in the same tiny sleepy town as my ex until June, I didn't get into my second choice grad school, I can't afford my first choice grad school, so I'm basically without a paddle after that. the guy i met in Italy is walking across Europe and today he sent me this in the mail:

a dozen letters he has written while walking through the French countryside, all of them beautiful, most of them specifically encouraging me to keep on and be strong and intelligent etc., nevermind the fact that he is on an epic journey that is so much more interesting than my stupid life and way more fun to write about than me.

but he's asexual. i finally meet a man who is sweet to me and he's not doing it to get into my pants and that is somehow a problem.

it makes me cry, dumb though it is.
