nayrt, but sometimes in movies (igss to not waste movie time?) they'll just have people walk right into houses w/o actually unlocking a door. the only scenes i can think of where someone actually unlocks a door is when it's used in the plot (like if they're taking too long to unlock the door and miss an important phone call, or when someone in a house hears a key in the lock and knows someone just came home, etc)

i think it's a matter of pacing. you see more doors being unlocked in horror and spy stuff.

i second this. my uni recognizes absences for 'compassionate' reasons, and the anniversary of your close friend's killing is definitely a solid reason imo.
