this is just my onion, but hxc fundie xtianity has a thing about how ur supposed to channel all ur erotic energy into jesus/god & the general teachings get really really weirdly sexual about the "passion god has for us" like when we learn about song of songs etc. "god is my bf" is a v common theme in fundie xtian music.
so my personal belief if that sufjan really is gay, but that he's also deliberately playing with that "i love god/jesus in a pseudo-sexual way" thing bc OOPS he's also gay and loves his male partner in pseudo-spiritual way. does that make sense?
