learning about the behind the scenes issues w/ the real ghostbusters cartoon
after it got popular the studio hired a company to "fix it" (bc when it's doing well that's when you should change it) and the changes were so racist and sexist that the story editor quit and refused to come back
they fucked up the show so bad they BEGGED him to come back and he'd only do it if he could fix the show to how it used to be but it was too late by the time he returned
in the first season winston was given a proactive role and treated like a member of the team. janine was a tough new yorker who gave the guys shit all the time. yeah she had a het romance but she was an interesting character in her own right.
but after they hired the company to come in they were like "hey can you just make winston the driver?" and he was cut out of stories. they also wanted to get rid of ray completely bc he was "useless"
meanwhile they said that girls prefer nurturing female characters that are more demure and don't talk back to the men so much. so she was stripped of her personality and just babied the guys after that and acted more like a mother to them. (bc it's what "girls relate w/") and they told them to add more slimer and make everyone love him. they legit poochie the dog'd him.
