Greg (white passing Latinx) is a tattoo artist. Rose Quartz (black) is his deceased wife (died in childbirth). He runs a tattoo shop called Beach City Tattoos. When Rose died her funeral was standing room only because she was meaningful to so many people.

Greg’s tattoos include: a full sleeve dedicated to Rose and to his days as a budding musician (before he got into body art). Steven’s name is over his heart, and his other arm has a sleeve dedicated both to rocks and space. (because he and Rose first bonded over science! specifically science references in Greg’s songs)

Steven (mixed) is too young to get any tattoos (obviously) but already knows he wants to be a tattoo artist like his dad one day. His first tattoo he has planned is a rose quartz gem design over his belly button. (He’s an outie) The shop mascot is Lion, a massive leonberger that usually sleeps all day in the front window. Also is Steven’s service dog for his anxiety.

Connie (desi) is also too young for tattoos (not that her parents would approve) but because of her fencing lessons from Pearl she wants something dedicated to the art on her back one day.

Pearl (Vietnamese) is the piercer at the shop, and teaches fencing in her spare time. (Connie wants to go to the Olympics one day) She only has a rose with a gem texture tattooed on her left shoulder; otherwise she is bare. (She has a orbital in her left ear and a double industrial in her right ear) Was a veteran of Afghanistan so she has PTSD. Is autistic.

Amethyst (Latinx) is the latest apprentice at the shop. She specializes in monsters and realistic portraits; she already has tattoos all over that she had to work off before apprenticing. (She was a runaway that tried to steal from Greg and Rose’s shop but Rose took her in and helped her better herself) Has borderline and depression. Like my sister

Garnet (black) is one of the veteran artists at the shop. Being a regular sized child to two mothers that were also little people made her childhood quite the adventure. (Both Ruby and Sapphire are black; Ruby is a gym teacher and Sapphire teaches english at the local high school. It’s how they met) Has “I am made of love” on her back with a tribute to her moms. Does a lot of quotes and line work.

Jasper (white/black biracial) is a buff lesbian that is into the MMA and boxing circuit. (She’s won a few olympic medals in her day) She has all these symbols of strength (predatory animals, fire, etc) tattooed everywhere, but on the center of her back is a rose, dedicated to the woman that made her rethink what strength really was.

Lapis Lazuli (native/specifically Miwok) is a college student that is an art prodigy. Greg REALLY wants her to apprentice at his shop even though she just turned 18, but knows he can’t push it. Has some musical note tattoos on her biceps done in watercolor ink. Also really good at playing the violin, and tutors Connie to help pay for her bills. (She got full scholarships to the school she attends)

Peridot (iranian) is a muslim woman with a prosthetic leg that has a masters in computer engineering but is currently stuck working at the local Best Buy as she pursues her doctorate. Has a bunch of math and science related tattoos hidden under her clothes. A battered Koran is constantly on the dashboard of her car. Has OCD and anxiety like me

Lars is also a piercer, Sadie is an artist, anyone else I should add? What are your thoughts?

i feel like when you have this many ppl with their own issues and background it's better when you have a story devoted to them.

and there are people who write about whatever they want, w/e, but the best writers draw from experiences of ppl close to them. but don't tell tumblr that, i'm whitewashing and stuff. why is tokenism so popular.
