straight people are literally incapable of seeing fictional relationships as anything other than heterosexual. they will sooner see romantic potential in a main character and random side character of opposite sex who shows up 2 seconds in the show than the main character and another major character who are both the same sex and have chemistry
the weirdest thing for me was that this was the first confirmation i had had that it wasn't jut a weird song my teacher had made up. it was pretty obscure at the time, and it's not like u could google lyrics, so u could legitimately expect nobody to recognise it
