So I actually watched the episode and it’s not really a man-in-a-dress joke, to be honest it’s not really much of a joke at all. It’s just… very uncomfortable. Sure, there’s context to the scene but it plays out like every other example out there. She’s with somebody she loves, her love suddenly speaks with a deep voice, then turns out to be a man, which leaves her disgusted and repulsed. Context is the only thing that brings it from “blatantly transphobic” to “incredibly unsettling”. But even then, it absolutely does not belong in a kids show with positivity and affirmingness at its core values. Because the prominence of stuff like that can absolutely fuck up trans girls into hating themselves. I’m more troubled than angry at this point.
Walter White is likable. Carrie is not likable to me. I can't root for someone I hate. Even in Breaking Bad for all of Walter's sins he is still a good guy in my mind. Carrie is just a psychotic woman with a grudge.
I think it’s really important that Rose Quartz, who is emblematic of love and compassion, is shown to have difficulty with empathy. I hope it helps people in real life who have trouble with that, and are ostracized for it
