i interviewed for a job last week and i'm almost sure i'm going to get it, but they said they might make it part time so they don't have to offer me benefits

gdi the job is at a university and the only reason i applied is bc universities offer stunning benefits

i miss my university job benefits

when they needed to restructure my job, my boss fought to keep me at an hour level to keep my benefits and i am v grateful to her for that

(Anonymous) 2013-09-01 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
they totally do

i pay $20 a month and my copays for my visits are $5

i worked at a research lab in a university for 5 years, 2 as a volunteer undergrad, 3 as an hourly employee. i literally begged for at least health insurance, i didn't care about any other benefits, but nope. less experienced people who didn't care about the field we were working in got the salaried positions and often never finished their contracts. damn my need for recommendations :c

(Anonymous) 2013-09-01 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
yeah you worked in a lab... postdocs and lab techs and whatnot are criminally underpaid

(Anonymous) 2013-09-01 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
i was a lab tech out of college and i made $12/hr, which was all right for single kidless me, but honestly the benefits more than made up for it

i know i should have expected less. sadly i did earn more than the grad students which is fucked up considering how their advisor got over 300,000 a year vs their 18,000 :\

(Anonymous) 2013-09-01 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
(but it also shouldn't have been a surprise to you when they wouldn't give you those things tbh)

(Anonymous) 2013-09-01 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
i know i shouldn't have expected much. i was just bitter my boss was riding around in a bentley he bought on a whim ignore me ;~;

(Anonymous) 2013-09-01 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
whoa what university can a lab director afford a bentley

as far as i know there's not a person in the world that works in a lab bc it pays well. you can't do hard science for money, despite what the computer science and engineering majors would have you believe

(Anonymous) 2013-09-01 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
it was a psych lab but he did get huge grants from nih and the cdc. still he could have given his students better stipends >:c
