srly tho. poor ppl arent dumb. don't you fucking think we want to eat better? but it's expensive as fuck, and it's time consuming. when you have a job that physically drains you how are you supposed to cook? throw on that children? and lets be real, anon is ignoring a sexist component to this. how much energy do you think a woman has after working an 8 hr shift, then coming home to take care of kids and laundry and chores? making something cheap and easy takes less time and energy then making something with fresh produce. not to mention fresh produce means going out and shopping multiple times a week

how is that possible when you have two or three bills over due or your car broke down or god help you you got sick? and lbr ppl are lucky to have some sort of coverage. being poor means buying food with your pay check and praying that it lasts you until your next one. you cant buy fresh produce like that.

yep. even the farmer's markets that accept ebt are still almost entirely patronized by middle/upper class ppl

(Anonymous) 2013-09-01 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
yes. and they are hard to get to tbh bc they tend to be in middle/upper class neighborhoods and areas where buslines dont go

(Anonymous) 2013-09-01 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
the two biggest ones in my city are right smack in the middle of some frequently running buslines

i srsly lucked out w/ the one i used to go to, my work train went right by it. but just getting off there after work was an automatic $2.50, subtract that from whatever tips i got that week (usually less than $25) and it's still more expensive than canned/frozen, even if it's better for u

(Anonymous) 2013-09-01 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
but all you need is a 10 pound sack of lentils and you'll be fine!!!!!!!!

(Anonymous) 2013-09-01 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
i make time because i still have the ability to look beyond the short-term. i know if i all i eat is processed junk food, i'll be worse off in the end

(Anonymous) 2013-09-01 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
it's easy to look past the short term when u have more than $20 to feed urself per week

(Anonymous) 2013-09-01 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
oh shut the fuck up. not everyone is young, unmarried, and doesnt have kids. not everyone can make time.

if you're married you're splitting all your duties with another person

either make your spouse help you or dump them if they refuse

dumping ~half your income will surely help pull struggling mothers out of poverty

(Anonymous) 2013-09-01 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
igss you can make time to rant and rave on anon. but wait this your "fun" time, right?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-01 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
hadn't even thought of that, rofl

(Anonymous) 2013-09-01 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
luckily i dont have to worry about kids but this was my family's experience growing up.

my dad had a labor intensive job when he came home and he usually slept right away after work. my mom had a less labor intensive job but she still had to take care of us kids and cook and clean. if she and my dad had divorced then what? thats over half the income gone.

you need to shut the fuck up and go punch yourself in the face.

What are you doing on anon? Being unable to think of the future is why they're all drug-addicted prostitutes.
