i hate casually sexist male characters who get a lot of women and talk about them like objects

so much of slash is about dudes like that urgh fuck off

(Anonymous) 2013-08-31 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
dudes who identify with those characters/get super angry at the women in those shows are invariably the worst

see: comics bros who identify with tony stark

y but slash writers are women and think their sexist bs is cute

(Anonymous) 2013-08-31 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
most characters like that are kinda advertised as cool and desirable. you're supposed to think they're sexy and attractive, in most cases the writers writing the "charming asshole" are as in love with him as his fans

you would think feminists would get that

(Anonymous) 2013-08-31 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
who are you thinking of specifically?

(Anonymous) 2013-08-31 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
tony stark, dean winchester, jim kirk, so many anime dudes

omg yas

or writers who turn str8 characters gay by posing at as this deeper, more meaningful relationship with a man bc a relationship with a woman is always superficial and meaningless. its killing 2 birds with one stone for them cause it nicely sets up their otp while completely demonizing/getting rid of whatever women might appear in cannon.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-31 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
i disagree about turning str8 characters gay, that's not something i will ever care about and if they're not bashing her writing slash instead of canon het is not misogynist by itself

(Anonymous) 2013-09-01 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
maybe that was worded poorly, i dont care abt turning straight characters gay but i find it offensive when authors do it by using the context "a man dating another man is the purest sort of relationship and more important than a man dating a woman" bc its sexist, antiquated garbage. there's nothing inherently sacred about a male/male relationship that couldn't be found in a female/female one, or a male/female one.

casually sexist male characters who are considered "good, well-written characters" even though they're sexist shits
