the susan g. komen foundation (breast cancer research) turned down a $3k donation from pornhub.com because they raised the money by encouraging viewers to wait big/small "tit" videos and then donating a dollar for every view. they did this in five days but the organization turned it down.
dumb or understandable? i'm leaning towards dumb tbh money is money even if u h8 porn.
a) susan g. komen is kind of a shit organization, see: pinkwashing b) it matters where your money comes from when you're a non-profit/charity/etc, GLAAD turned down money from Elton John because it was money he'd received for performing at Rush Limbaugh's wedding, money is not money when it comes to public perception and $3k is nothing compared to the bad press they'd get and potential donations they'd lose b/c people don't want to donate to an organization that associates with a porn site
it's one of those charities that makes the people that donate feel good cause they donated but the actual impact they have on curing/supporting/etc whatever cause it is is minimal
livestrong is kinda like that, too, though idk about their % of proceeds that actually go to cancer research vs overhead/etc
