i worked at a research lab in a university for 5 years, 2 as a volunteer undergrad, 3 as an hourly employee. i literally begged for at least health insurance, i didn't care about any other benefits, but nope. less experienced people who didn't care about the field we were working in got the salaried positions and often never finished their contracts. damn my need for recommendations :c

OH OH! i have the same issue and i actually brought it up while seeing an ENT

so when u scrape out ur ears like that, it scrapes out all the ear wax. when u have no ear wax ur ears get itchy replacing it. but the itching makes u scrape it more.

thus a circle of itchy life

apparently it can take up to 6 weeks to restore the waxy balance. meanwhile i still use q-tips, oops sry doctor :(

I seem to remember Vonnegut writing somewhere about the difference in writing styles between men and women--namely, that women were flitty and just wanted to get something down before they went back and edited it to death, and that men were more methodical and plodding, and so did not have to rewrite all that much since whatever made it to the page was as good as it was reasonably going to get. Of course, this was assuming that all writers would take the advice of a fucking editor.

use hydrogen peroxide and a q-tip (CAREFULLY)

if it's bad enough see an ear/nose/throat doctor to see if there's an underlying issue

(Anonymous) 2013-09-01 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
yeah you worked in a lab... postdocs and lab techs and whatnot are criminally underpaid

(Anonymous) 2013-09-01 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
(but it also shouldn't have been a surprise to you when they wouldn't give you those things tbh)

(Anonymous) 2013-09-01 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
damn it

(Anonymous) 2013-09-01 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
go to the doctor anyway bc you've probably done damage u don't know about. qtips aren't meant for cleaning ears. peroxide might help

(Anonymous) 2013-09-01 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
i was a lab tech out of college and i made $12/hr, which was all right for single kidless me, but honestly the benefits more than made up for it
