what is wrong with choice feminism, again? isn't it bad to shame women for not wanting to feel guilty about adhering to sexist standards? can you really blame some women for not wanting to deal with backlash just because it goes against feminist standards?

typical kneejerk sjw reaction. /can we not/, we all know everything about feminism here, everyone.

just bc you are making choices does not mean they are feminist

(Anonymous) 2012-05-16 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
but then a lot of choices are not, just because you make a choice like that doesn't mean you aren't feminist, does it? should every woman feel guilty about buying into patriarchal norms? it's like damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Have you ever seen or read Pedagogy of the Oppressed? It addresses this, somewhat.

it's not about feeling guilty imo because we all have to buy into patriarchal norms just to survive

it's about dissecting these practices outside of ourselves and recognizing that it is about something bigger than each individual's choices

i don't think that's what ppl mean by choice feminism

they mean when people say the goal is ~choice not when people think you shouldn't shame for choices. criticism/analyses isn't automatically shaming is it

sure ia but it's like do women all the time have to apologize or try to justify themselves if people didn't assume you couldn't be a feminist for doing traditionally feminine things or adhering to certain norms? ofc it's sexist, lbr everything is sexist because we live in a sexist world and everything has baggage. i don't blame women for not wanting to apologize or beat themselves up, that's all.

ok but that has literally nothing to do with the criticism of choice feminism
