i think a problem is that people always express themselves in extremes

lotr can't just be sexist or have black and white morality, no it has to be most misogynist morally black and white piece of shit problematic trash in existence

which then leads people who would agree that lotr is sexist and black and white in morality to point out that it's not the actual worst when compared to other works in the genre
